Drotaverine, an antispasmodic, has a good relaxing effect on intestinal smooth muscle, which helps in alleviating pain and does not have side effects like anticholinergics. There is paucity of data regarding uses of drotaverine in alleviating the pain and overall symptoms of IBS.
